CPU Time

How are CPU costs calculated?

Computer Processing Unit (CPU) time is logged by all processors in units of seconds. The RCC converts these values to hours (CPU hr) for each piece of equipment and calculates totals for the preceding 12 months.

Costs associated with the RCC are calculated yearly. Currently, equipment, space, staff and network connectivity are provided by OVPR, UGARF, the CIO, the Provost, GRA or researcher-acquired external funding. Please visit the Funding and Costs tab on the home page to see the respective contributions. The only billable costs (not covered by indirect cost recovery) are the fees associated with software licenses and maintenance agreements (if these are not covered by external grants).

Costs are calculated by taking the billable cost total for the upcoming fiscal year and dividing it by the number of CPU hrs used in the preceding 12 months.

What is the CPU hr cost for FY2010?

The cost depends upon the RCC queue that you use for your job. Most queues cost 11 cents per CPU hour, but there are a few queues that are free for the users that obtained the equipment and licenses used on that queue. Please see the table below.
